Spots Can Become Stains
Pets vs Rugs
As a pet owner, you love your pets and treat them like your little, furry children. Unfortunately, pets can wreak havoc on Persian, antique and oriental rugs. This is because pets leave behind fur and dander from shedding. These items can get trapped in the fibers of the rug, causing them to become matted and difficult to clean. Additionally, pets can have accidents on your luxury rug, leaving behind stains and odors that can be difficult to remove. If you have pets, you’ll need to increase the cleaning routine of your fine rug. Take the time to remove pet hair, dust and dander as soon as you notice it, and clean up any pet accidents as soon as they happen. Do not use any off-the-shelf cleaning products on your fine rugs as they can permanently set stains and cause color bleeding or loss.
Act Fast When Spills Occur
Food and drink spills and other types of stains should also be cleaned from your rug as soon as they occur. Leaving stains, spills and food particles for an extended period of time on your rug can make them harder to remove. This is because they become embedded in the fibers. When this happens, you may notice the fibers becoming discolored and stiff.
All stains should be professionally cleaned as soon as possible. If you have pets or children in your home, it is recommended that you have your rugs cleaned annually. If no little ones, don’t let two years go by. At two years, wool fibers start to break down at the cuticle.
