Exposing Rugs to Harsh Sunlight
The Importance of Rug Placement
Rugs can tie a room together, define a sitting area and help protect your hardwood floors in high-traffic areas. But the placement of your rugs can impact their quality of life.
Laying luxury rugs in front of exterior doors and open windows may seem like a good idea. After all, you can see the details of the rug better if it’s bathed in light. Unfortunately, prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause Persian, oriental, antique, or contemporary rugs to fade. Over time, this fading will cause your rug to look worn, yellowed, or discolored. To avoid this type of damage, try to place your rugs in areas where they won’t receive direct sunlight.
Also, remember to rotate your rugs semi-annually to even out wear and exposure to sunlight thereby prolonging the life of your rugs.
