Both natural fiber and synthetic rugs are popular choices for many homeowners, but for very different reasons. Many people choose synthetic machine-made rugs based on two factors: price and trendy colors or designs. While man-made fabrics produce chic options, most owners discover that they don’t hold up to repeated washing. Since machine-made, synthetic fiber rugs are usually produced with a backing applied to hold the design threads in place, washing them is difficult and can limit the amount of time they last. Buying this type of rug could cost less initially since mass production of this type of product is automated and uses inexpensive materials. Higher costs may eventually be realized, however, when rugs need to be replaced much more frequently due to a lack of durability, color fading, and even changes in trendy design or color choices.
